Spirit Egg: The Contract with the Mountains, Documentary Film Field Research Sharing and Clay Sculpture Workshop

「祢（祖靈）給我一點，我給祢（祖靈）一個蛋，我們來做個交換。」

在紀錄片《揹獵物的女人》發表之後，導演余欣蘭投身新的研究與拍攝計畫，從田野訪查的過程裡追尋失傳的太魯閣族部落傳統信仰儀式。《靈蛋—太魯閣族家族召喚獵靈儀式之影像創作計畫》預計探索與神靈連結通往山林世界的途徑。導演自家族的獵靈儀式口述中得到創作啟發，如在秋冬季狩獵期間於同一個獵區一直捕獲不到獵物，祖輩的人會用一顆蛋來與祖靈做為交換，透過神靈力量召喚東邊與西邊的獵物進入唯一的陷阱裡。她震撼於一顆小小的蛋所具有的強大力量，於是啟動了這個新的創作嘗試。

本工作坊將分享在螢幕背後，導演的田野經歷與心得，並透過集體手作的過程交流我們與山林共生的交換契約。太魯閣族獵人的其中一個強大使命在於養護山林生態，而這個與山林共存的契約是透過什麼樣的形式、實踐、精神的交換與連結而成立的？又在現實世界裡可以被怎麼閱讀與演繹？

工作坊將運用導演自家族獵場山上所採集的土，邀請參與者進行塑蛋的過程中，我們也將不同的溫度、意念、手上的微生物群都帶入這些陶蛋之中，在此擴延的共生交換契約之中，注入我們各自與山林和世界的連結。

備註：本活動為創作計畫中的一部分，參與者所現場製作的陶蛋將部分分享與藝術家，列名參展於未來的展覽中，部分可在素燒後帶回。過程中也將有攝錄影紀錄，參與者可自由選擇是否願意入鏡授權肖像權使用。

"You (Ancestral Spirit) Give Me a Little, I Give You an Egg, Let's Make an Exchange."

Following the release of her documentary The Women Carrying the Prey, director Rngrang Hungul embarked on a new journey of research and filmmaking. This project seeks to rediscover the lost traditional rituals of the Taroko tribe through fieldwork. Spirit Egg: A Documentary Film Project on the Taroko Tribe’s Family Spirit-Summoning Hunting Ritual aims to explore the spiritual pathways connecting humanity to the mountain. Inspired by her family’s oral accounts of spirit-summoning hunting rituals, the director learned of a tradition in which, during the autumn and winter hunting seasons, if no prey was caught in the same hunting area, ancestors would offer an egg to the spirits. Through this act of exchange, the spirits would summon game from the east and west into a single trap. The power embodied in a small egg profoundly moved her, sparking this new creative endeavor.

This workshop will share the director’s field experiences and insights behind the scenes, fostering dialogue about the reciprocal contract of coexistence with the mountains through collective hands-on creation. One of the Taroko hunter's crucial missions is to preserve the forest ecosystem. How is this symbiotic contract with the mountains established through forms, practices, and spiritual exchanges? How can this relationship be interpreted and practiced in today’s world?

Using soil collected from her family’s hunting grounds in the mountains, the workshop invites participants to shape clay eggs. Through this process, participants infuse the eggs with their unique warmth, intentions, and the microbial life from their hands. These clay eggs become extensions of the contract of symbiosis, embodying each participant’s connection to the forest and the broader world.

Note: This event is part of the director’s creative project. Some clay eggs made by participants during the workshop will be shared with the director and included in future exhibitions, with participant names credited. Participants can take the other eggs home after bisque firing. The workshop process will be documented through photography and video, and participants can decide whether to appear on camera and grant permission for the future use.
