自然一直是人類觀察的主題與對象，然而對於生態意識的認知與生態藝術的興起，卻是相對晚近的觀念。這不光是崇敬自然、接觸或描繪自然、或沈浸其中，由James Lovelock、Lynn Margulis在七〇年代所提出蓋亞假說所帶來的啟發，也逐漸地被人文社會學科所採納並演繹成更多關於共生理論的世界觀，並在現今氣候危機日漸加劇之際，也成為藝術家在人類世中所關注和思考的重要主題。然而，我們究竟如何將生態與藝術並置、思考與實踐？科技又在此能夠扮演何種角色？藝術和大氣中那上升的2度C要如何發生關係？大氣的組成和循環裡有藝術的存在和需求嗎？

生態藝術所面對的實踐過程特別充滿挑戰：要如何在地連結又不介入？或介入而不破壞？是否需要奠基於關懷其他物種的傷痛、展現跨物種的感知與溝通？生態藝術的實踐要如何不止是一種漂綠的標籤或是綠化的形式，並且真正達成生態上的貢獻？藝術與科技的合作是否能夠為我們展示自然更深厚、更具精神性的維度？生態災難的奇觀化，或是展示各種警世性質的標語，是否也容易成為政治活動的藝術形式？生態藝術是主題、倫理、形式、態度還是最終是一種奠基在人類世情感需求上的敘事與想像？

如果生態藝術是一種愛、同理與共感，這首情歌怎麼唱？本次座談邀請到多位策展人與藝術家共同分享，並一起對生態與藝術的兩難實踐、美學、倫理、科技與政治，做出回應與新的集體繪圖聯想。

Nature has always been the subject and object of human observation, but the awareness of ecological consciousness and the rise of ecological art are relatively recent concepts. This is not just about revering nature, engaging with it, or depicting it; it's also inspired by ideas like the gaia hypothesis proposed by James Lovelock and Lynn Margulis in the 1970s. These concepts have gradually been embraced and interpreted by the humanities and social sciences, evolving into a broader worldview concerning theories of coexistence. In the face of the growing climate crisis, it has also become a significant theme of concern, action and contemplation for artists as well. However, how do we truly integrate ecology and art, both in thought and practice? What role could technology play there? How does this relate to the rising 2°c in the atmosphere? Is there a place for art within the composition and cycles of—our air?

The practice of ecological art is particularly challenging: how can we deeply engage with the land without interfering? Or how can we interfere with the land without damaging it? Should it be grounded in empathy for the suffering of other species, demonstrating cross-species perception and communication? How can the practice of ecological art go beyond being just a green label or a form of greenwashing and truly contribute to ecology? How can art collaborate with technology to show us a deeper and spiritual side of nature? The spectacles of ecological disasters or the display of various warning messages, can they easily become a form of political activism or a political instrument? Is ecological art primarily about themes, ethics, forms, attitudes, or ultimately a narrative and imagination based on the anthropocene human emotional needs?

If ecological art is a form of love, empathy, and resonance, how should this love song be sung? In this discussion, we have invited several curators and artists to share their insights and respond to the dilemmas of ecology and art, creating new understanding of its aesthetics, ethics, technology and politics in the collective mapping.

與談者簡歷

紀柏豪為融聲創意工作室負責人，其創作實踐大多源自於對規則與邊界的好奇，常經由觀察日常生活中的差異來設計方法。藉由科技工具輔助，他深入研究人類和非人類實體如何在各自的環境中感知和共構彼此。畢業於國立台灣大學經濟系後，他先後獲得了倫敦大學金匠學院的音樂碩士學位，以及麻省理工學院的理學碩士學位。除了從事藝術創作外，他還涉足於劇場製作、活動組織及數位研發，並有豐富的教學及國際駐村經驗。

林承緯，綽號大緯，科學與當代藝術策展人，生活於臺灣臺北。畢業於臺大生命科學系與萊斯特大學美術館研究所，現職國立臺灣科學教育館館員，也是科學藝術團體「共演化研究隊」的核心成員。希望透過策展捕捉各種生物、生命形式如何生活、生存的各種樣態，並從中找到一種差異的共性。

Carolina Castro Jorquera 是一位策展人與研究者，她目前就於聖地牙哥Universidad Finis Terrae 的 MFA program Image Making and Research 任教。她與Cape Horn Internaal Center、Parque La Giganta等保育、生物多樣性的組織合作。她的策展與寫作在拉丁美洲有諸多發表。她在Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía 取得當代藝術與視覺文化碩士，在馬德里Universidad Autónoma獲得藝術史博士學位，專注在生態女性主義藝術於拉丁美洲的發展。

蔡明君，1981年出生於臺灣高雄，家鄉在南投，現工作、居住於台中。她從國中就讀美術班至今都在藝術領域中，長年經驗帶來她對於藝術和大眾與社會之間關係的探索。她對於環境、自然與生態有著深刻的關心，也對於臺灣歷史、政治、人權發展有諸多關懷。她的計畫多為場域或脈絡限定，以委託製作為方法與態度。現為東海大學美術系專任助理教授，持續進行當代策展的實踐與研究。

Speakers

Lin Cheng-Wei (Davey) is a curator of science and contemporary art and lives in Taipei, Taiwan. Graduated from the Department of Life Sciences of National Taiwan University and the Institute of Art Museum of the University of Leicester, he currently works at the National Taiwan Science and Education Center and the core member of the science and art collective "Coevolution Research Assembly". His curatorial practice attempts to capture the diversity of lives and survivals of the beings, so as to reveal a sharing uniqueness.

Chi Po-hao is a Taiwanese artist and the head of Zone Sound Creative studio whose work is primarily inspired by a fascination with rules and boundaries. He often devises creative approaches by observing subtle differences in everyday life. Utilizing technological tools, he explores in-depth how human and non-human entities perceive and co-construct their respective worlds. After completing his undergraduate studies in Economics at National Taiwan University, he earned a Master's in Music from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a Master's in Science from MIT. Beyond his creative pursuits, he is also involved in theater production, event planning, and digital R&D and has extensive experience in teaching and international residencies.

Carolina Castro Jorquera (San Felipe, Chile, 1982) is a curator and researcher. She is currently a professor of the Master in Research / Image Creation at the Finis Terrae University, she collaborates with initiatives linked to conservation of biodiversity such as the Cape Horn International Center (CHIC) and Parque La Giganta. As a curator she has organized numerous exhibitions, and her writings have been widely disseminated in Latin America. Carolina has a Master's degree in Contemporary Art and Visual Culture from the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and a PhD in Art History from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

Ming-Jiun Tsai was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 1981; Nantou is her hometown, and now she lives and works in Taichung. Acting as an observer, her long-term relationship with art – studying and working in the field of art since junior high school – stimulates her interests in the relationship between art, public and the society. She has profound care of environment, nature and ecology and she also has been deeply concerned about Taiwanese history and politics and human rights development. As an independent curator and artist, Ming-Jiun Tsai’s projects are often site and context specific involving working closely with different collaborators and producing commissions. Ming-Jiun Tsai focuses on the practice and research of contemporary curating and is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Fine Arts at Tunghai University.
